Chapter 84: The Symbol of Resurrection (1)

TL/ED – Miso

“Will it be okay…?”

Right after the Korean representative entered the gate.

Lydia could not hide her concern.

She had led the Awakened from the Czech Republic and Germany and fought against the demons of Fermegon herself.

However, the troops that Kim Jeong-gyeom had taken with him numbered barely around twenty.

No matter how she thought about it, it was an unreasonably small force to attack Fermegon’s stronghold.

“…I should have stopped him somehow.”

Of course, she knew.

Kim Jeong-gyeom was firm in his decision to use the Fermegon gate for movement, and it did not align with the plans of the Czech and German Awakened, including herself.

That was what Lydia found most regrettable.

“If it had been Dresden, we could have moved together instead…”

For them, the most important place was none other than Dresden.

A German city connected by a major road to Prague in the Czech Republic.

Many of the German Awakened in their group, including Lydia herself, had family members in Dresden.

Kim Jeong-gyeom’s strategy of selecting and striking Fermegon’s strongholds through the gate was not bad, but for them, rescuing the family members trapped in Dresden was the top priority.

Lost in thought, Lydia looked at the golden object in front of her.

Twitch!

Twitch!

The gate core, tied up with a rope, flicked its tongue back and forth.

The Korean representative had left it behind, and it remained there untouched.

“…Is he telling us to take care of it?”

It was a simple task.

They just needed to deal with the gate core and reorganize Prague’s forces.

After that, they could proceed with their original plan to prepare for the operation to reclaim Dresden.

However…

“If the gate core is destroyed, they won’t even be able to retreat…”

The Korean representative had been not just composed, but almost lethargic in his demeanor.

But what if he had overestimated his abilities?

What if the demons were far stronger than he anticipated?

She might end up cutting off the retreat of the Korean forces with her own hands.

“Julian!”

That was why.

A perilous gate portal leading to the demons.

She had called in a reconnaissance specialist to see beyond it.

“…Share your vision. Towards where the Korean representative is.”

She made up her mind.

The Korean forces might be struggling against the demons.

Before closing the gate, she had to rescue them first.

“We have to find them quickly. Knights in armor, a few Eastern Awakened…”

She added urgently.

The perspective shared by the reconnaissance Awakened, Julian.

But what she saw through it was…

“…Huh?”

Not just dozens, but hundreds of troops storming Fermegon’s demon fortress.

“…Why are there so many?”

Boom!

Boom!

It was an overwhelming sight.

Like fruit toppings crumbling off a slice of cake, the spires of the demon fortress collapsed.

Amidst the rubble, a giant battle hammer glowing with radiant light rose high.

The thunderous roars of the Holy Knights, shouting at the top of their lungs.

“For PAX FC!”

“Purify the filthy demons!”

“…Ugh.”

Startled, Lydia unconsciously stepped back.

And that was not all.

A Gigant, moving with heavy, oil-drenched steps.

That massive presence,

Fwoosh!

Boom!

Suddenly crashed into the entrance of the demon fortress with an explosion.

Even the sight of the pilot’s brightly colored parachute drifting down felt annoyingly smug, but that was not the end of it.

Boom!

Boom!

Unidentified chunks of metal rained down.

Covered in a dazzling white glow and streaked with bluish circuits, these objects exploded one after another as they struck the demon fortress.

-Kyaaaah!

-Kyaaah!

“N-no way!”

Lydia was horrified.

As if they had disturbed a beehive, demons, including gargoyles, swarmed out of the demon fortress like a hive of bees.

However,

Swish!

Swish!

The demons were pierced one after another by the Holy Spears that rained down from the sky.

At the sight before her, Lydia could only drop her jaw in astonishment like a fool.

‘…Can that even be called a battle?’

That was Lydia’s honest impression.

She finally spotted Kim Jeong-gyeom aboard a helicopter.

What she observed of his fight was closer to an art form than a battle.

Eight portals had opened around the helicopter.

The dozens of spears that rained down from each one never missed or hit anything other than their targets.

“No, this is…”

The Holy Knights shouting battle cries.

The Skeleton Knights emitting a blue glow from their eyes.

The massive self-destructing Gigants and the agile metallic beams and guided weapons soaring through the air.

Only then did Lydia realize.

This was not a battle against Fermegon, this was a judgment upon them.

And,

“…Who is helping whom…?”

It was not the Korean representative who needed saving, it was herself.

***

“Clear!”

“Clear here too!”

Once again, they had turned the fortress into a sandcastle.

As the PAX Man Holy Knights climbed over the ruins of the shattered demon fortress, their voices rang out one by one.

They planted flags bearing the PAX FC logo all over the place.

Flutter!

“Who came up with that…?”

The plate armor and hammers, forged by dwarves specifically for demon hunting.

Originally, it was meant as part of a concept and for the sake of romance, but unexpectedly, the PAX Men responded quite well to it.

Either way, their first battle in Europe had been absurdly easy.

In just a few hours, they had conquered Fermegon’s fortress in Naples and had already slain nearly a hundred demons with Holy Spears.

“…At this rate, we’ll reach a thousand in a few days.”

With overwhelming force on their side, everything was going smoothly.

However,

“…Now, this is the problem.”

There was one issue.

As expected from a key stronghold, Naples also housed a massive detention camp established by Fermegon.

Though he had not counted them personally, even at a glance, it held at least tens of thousands of captives.

The Skeleton Knights and PAX Men were working to open the gates slowly and distribute supplies, but the sheer number of people was overwhelming.

“…It’s taking too long.”

Leaving the gates wide open and simply walking away was not an option.

The detention camp was structured like a chicken coop.

If they were released without any measures in place, chaos was bound to erupt.

As he was lost in thought,

“…Hm?”

Lydia, the leader of the Prague Awakened group,

was approaching him.

.

.

.

She had said she would be reorganizing her forces in Prague.

Her sudden appearance in Naples was puzzling.

There was something strangely formal about her demeanor as he asked,

“I didn’t expect you to come here.”

“I know, I did say that, but…”

Lydia hesitated for a moment.

But it did not take long for her to get to the point.

“My younger sibling is in Dresden.”

That was certainly one of Fermegon’s occupied territories.

Lydia explained that her younger sibling, along with the families of other Awakened in her group, had been taken as prisoners in Dresden.

So that was why the Prague Awakened had been so insistent on targeting Dresden.

‘Is she asking me to attack Dresden first?’

He wondered if that was what she was going to ask, but,

Lydia’s request went a step further.

“If you permit it, we would like to support the battle as well. The speed of your conquest is just… overwhelming…”

“Ah…”

She had realized it too.

As I continued traveling through random gates, I would arrive in Dresden several times faster than they would.

As proof, I had successfully conquered Naples in just a few hours.

‘Well, this works out…’

Lydia’s group consisted of several thousand members.

Now, all I had to do was entrust them with the task of freeing and managing the captives in the detention camp.

Thanks to that, I could focus even more on my European campaign.

Moreover, her abilities extended beyond that.

“So… You’re saying you can use both buffs and debuffs?”

“Yes. But only within the range of my voice. It works by transmitting effects through speech.”

As expected of the leader of the Awakened, she possessed quite a unique ability.

“I can also provide various pieces of information. The demons…”

Was it because of her desperate desire to save her younger sibling?

Like a job applicant in front of an interviewer, she began listing all the ways she could be useful.

However,

“That’s more than enough.”

I stopped her long-winded briefing.

“There’s something I need you to do.”

A skill that could apply both buffs and debuffs simultaneously.

I had just the perfect job for her in PAX FC.

***

Murmur, murmur.

The subspace became noisy.

The location was none other than Camelot Castle.

The Skeleton Knights were stationed around as usual, while the elders of Elvenheim and the druids of the Great Forest had gathered in a crowd.

And,

Everyone was left speechless.

“This is… I’ve never seen such rapid growth in my 700 years of life.”

“Growth and overcoming through words, who could have imagined such a concept…”

Chewing on leaves, they couldn’t help but admire the sight before them.

The reason was none other than the World Tree within the subspace.

It was growing at an astonishing speed.

“Now it finally looks like something…”

I, too, felt a deep sense of satisfaction.

I had tried all sorts of things to nurture the World Tree.

‘…There was no stunt more ridiculous than this one.’

The key to raising the World Tree was the balance between “harm and healing”.

To maintain this balance, I alternated between using Camelot’s extraction function and the subspace life support system,

let Kim Sol use its sturdy trunk as a punching bag,

had my eldest sister periodically cast healing on it,

and even sprinkled the stolen drugs from Madison as fertilizer.

While there had been some progress, the World Tree’s growth always seemed to be missing one final push.

But,

Thanks to Lydia’s ability, it had finally broken through that limit.

“Keep going, Lydia.”

Lydia stood facing the World Tree.

Her face had turned bright red, as if she was about to die of embarrassment.

“…Yes…”

As I urged her on, she reluctantly continued her task.

She hesitated, her lips moving heavily,

Until she finally spoke.

In a clear, textbook-reading voice,

“…You are the most beautiful broadleaf tree in the world.”

Swoosh!

It was astonishing.

Upon hearing Lydia’s words, the leaves of the World Tree shimmered brightly and perked up.

However,

“…Don’t get ahead of yourself, you dumb weed.”

-!!

At the sudden cold insult, the leaves immediately withered into a yellowish hue.

The World Tree drooped its head, but

“Well, you do look pretty lush and green.”

-!?

At Lydia’s words, it perked up again.

Swoosh!

Droop…

Swoosh!

Droop…

An endless cycle.

Praise and insults alternating like flipping a coin.

And the World Tree blooming and wilting in response, over and over again.

The growth was so rapid that the leaves were visibly flourishing in real time, even to the naked eye.

‘I had a feeling when she said she could use both buffs and debuffs…’

Lydia’s ability allowed her to grant buffs through words.

The moment she entered the subspace, she ended up engaging in a pseudo-scientific conversation with a plant.

She looked like she wanted to die from embarrassment, but…

‘…This is great.’

Thanks to her, the World Tree was growing at an incredible rate.

“Well, the World Tree isn’t called a divine entity for nothing. Who would’ve thought it could mentally process both wounds and recovery…”

Clap, clap!

The elven elder, Wilglaim, clapped his hands like a seal in admiration.

“At this rate…”

Findrick, the druid chieftain, also marveled as he leaned in to whisper to me.

That within the next fifteen days, they might be able to revive the Skeleton Knights.

Meanwhile,

“My lord…”

Lancelot’s voice, however, was filled with unease.

Breaking free from the curse and coming back to life.

Without a doubt, it was a joyous occasion.

However,

“I fear our loyalty may waver. We will also lose the abilities we had as undead.”

He was worried about the abilities they would lose.

The knights of Camelot, who could not die even in death.

That was undeniably one of my greatest strengths.

Even in the face of such good news, he couldn’t simply rejoice.

But,

“Don’t worry. I have no intention of making you weaker.”

I immediately called over the dwarf, Cooper, who was standing nearby.

“You’re not working on anything at the moment, right?”

“Ever since I finished making the hammer, I’ve been taking it easy, just doing some minor repairs and maintenance… Why? You got something new for me?”

Through the dwarves, I had learned about the concept of magic circuits.

One thing I realized from this was that any carefully crafted object inevitably carried a certain philosophy or intent.

The “conditional inscriptions” drawn using magic circuits also followed this principle.

Depending on what kind of conditions were set, an object’s value and purpose could be determined.

With that in mind,

“Engrave a magic circuit into Camelot Castle.”

Camelot was no exception.

It was a unique artifact created by the warlocks of Barnaul.

Their lingering intent had been to trap the souls bound to it in the depths of hell for eternity.

It was only natural,

That I, wanting to save the knights, would challenge Barnaul’s intentions.

If the inscription they had carved into Camelot was “Death”,

“Then the condition I will inscribe is ‘Resurrection of Camelot’s knights’.”

The word I would write was “Resurrection”.

I didn’t expect a mass release! Thanks for the chapters tl-nim!

On that note, I have also been wondering how Camelot knights would turn out later on after their resurrection.
